Born in Brattleboro, Vermont, Vivian Avery developed an interest in photography in her twenties. After an introductory photography course in 2000, she avidly embraced the medium.

Her photographs include imagery from her travels throughout the United States, Canada Mexico, Asia and South Africa. She has a strong desire to capture the spiritual quality of photography - no matter the subject.

Avery’s architectural detail photography is her most recognizable imagery. They have been reinterpreted as dramatic giclee prints. She feels that, “there is so much beauty around us that just by looking up we can experience Boston's magnificent, unique architectural styles.” It is her hope that her photographs will inspire people to "look up" and truly appreciate the city’s architectural history.

She has been the recipient of numerous awards. Her unique photographs have been exhibited at various galleries and are included in many corporate collections as well as the hospitality industry.
