William Maloney graduated from the Massachusetts College of Art with a BFA degree in painting. He has studied under nationally known marine painter Don Stone. A professional painter for over 40 years and the retired Art Director of Raytheon Service Company, he is now painting full time and teaching on Cape Cod.
Mr. Maloney's landscapes, seascapes and city scenes are done in an "en plein air" realistic style using watercolor and oil as his preferred media. The varied coast of New England is his favorite subject. Of his work Maloney says succinctly, "The Lord blessed me with a talent to paint - I hope to use it wisely and well".
He is a member of the American Artists' Professional League, Cape Cod Art Association, New England Watercolor Society, the Oil Painters of America and the Whiskey Painters of America. He is also a Copley Master member of the Copley Society of Boston.
He is the recipient of many art awards, including 1st prize at the American Artists' Professional League (AARL) Grand National Exhibition in New York Grand National Exhibition in New York, 1st prize in Copley Society's large painting exhibit, 1st prize in Cape Cod Art Association's New England Exhibits in 1995 and 1997, the Sagendorph Award from Yankee Magazine in 1988 and 1997 and Best of Show from the Cape Cod Art Association and the Whistler Museum's Independent Show.
Mr. Maloney has exhibited in New York at the Salmagundi Club, the Northeast Watercolor Association and the Sea Heritage Museum and, in Lowell MA, at the Whistler Museum. He regularly exhibits at the Copley Society of Boston and the Cape Cod Museum of Fine Arts in Barnstable. His work is included in the corporate collections of the Raytheon Company, John Hancock Insurance Company, Marriott Hotels and Blue Cross of Boston. His paintings are in the permanent collection of the Cape Cod Museum of Fine Arts.
